The Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis is located in the centre of The Hague, the historical and political heart of the Netherlands. A small world-class museum with a formidable collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings from the 17th century; the golden age of this type of art. The museum consists of two striking historical buildings: the Mauritshuis, a city palace on the Plein in The Hague and the Prince William V Gallery at the Buitenhof.
In the Mauritshuis, you’ll discover 250 top works by Dutch and Flemish masters, such as the Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer, the Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt and The Young Bull by Potter. The museum was built in the 17th century as the residence of Johan Maurits of Nassau-Siegen, the nephew of William of Orange. Last year we celebrated the two hundred anniversary of the Mauritshuis as a museum. The Mauritshuis is committed to providing the very best educational facilities for all of its visitors. The museum has a long tradition of providing innovative educational activities for children. For these activities it has its own Art Workshop in the Plein Wing. This wing also houses an auditorium and temporary exhibition. With the free Mauritshuis app you can make your visit even more fun. You can follow a tour or look up information per painting.
